**In 2021, Merck (MRK) completed its spinoff of Organon & Company (ORG). Organon would have added $18,618.63 to a 1975 investment, $15,593.64 to a 1980 investment, $10,038.38 to a 1985 investment, $1,767.64 to a 1990 investment, $1,064.77 to a 1995 investment, $273.47 to a 2000 investment, $520.03 to a 2005 investment, $353.64 to a 2010 investment, $188.17 to a 2015 investment, and $100.40 to a 2020 invesmtment.
When calculating the total return for Merck Company, the additional value from the Medco Health and the Organon spinoff should be included.  Merck has produced some steady returns over most investment time periods. A $5,000 investment at the beginning of 1975 would be well over $1.2 million by the end of 2024. In more recent years, a $5,000 investment in 2010 would have gained nearly 350% by the end of 2024
*In August 2003, Medco Health Solutions was spun off Merck Company.
*In 2012, Medco was purchased by Express Scripts for $28.80 in cash and .81 ESRX shares.
